As she came in the getting-ready room of this southern charm spring wedding she wasn’t quite sure what she was in for. She stood facing the doorway, at the foot of the bed, next to the French doors that opened to the deck of the Herlong Mansion. Rhonda, Stephanie’s mother, who stood next to the doorway said, “Mamaw, turn and face the doors.” Mamaw, still confused as to what exactly was about to occur said “Why do you want me to face the doors?”. Little did she know that Rhonda had told us that she is a rule-breaker and likely to peek, so we were taking extra precautions to make sure she didn’t. The room grew with laughter from the bridesmaids, as they too, knew about Mamaw’s rule breaking habits.
As Mamaw put her cane to the side, she did as she was asked and rotated to the doors. Stephanie then quietly walked in and stood just a few feet behind her.
Stephanie asked her to turn back around. Her Mamaw didn’t quite hear her, so Stephanie asked her again. This time, it wasn’t so easy. Stephanie’s emotions were starting to surface, therefore forcing her voice to crack ever so slightly, and her eyes to well.
She saw her gorgeous granddaughter standing there in her wedding gown. Without words, she now understood the meaning of her being there, and the purpose of her turning to face the doors. Her voice didn’t crack, because she was without words, but her eyes also welled. Stephanie knew she wanted her Mamaw to have a first look for her, and this moment was exactly why. The importance of her and her family in her life is beyond words, and these pictures will forever be hers to look back on.
And each and every moment from here on out during Stephanie and Jeff’s wedding day was filled with so much joy, love, and tears all along the way. From her first look with her dad to their emotional ceremony, Stephanie and Jeff had the most amazing day filled with the love and support of those who they love most.
Stephanie and Jeff, we are so incredibly thankful to call you two a Cooney Couple, and we feel so honored to have shared your amazing wedding day with you both. And honestly, we can’t even believe that your day is already here. We have been through so much of this journey with you two (like even from choosing your venues out) because you two booked us before anything else, and that is such an honor that we will never take lightly. We love you two both so much, and we are forever grateful for the friendship that we have made with you. It takes a really special bride to give Shauna a gift on her wedding day (even if it was Shauna’s birthday). We hope that you two are enjoying just all of the joys of being newly-weds and soaking up all of the Patches snuggles.
Hugs and lots of love,
Shauna and Jordon
